Thoughts from the last year of running & eating properly

Towards the end of April 2023, something struck me & I started running. Since then, I didn't look back, and it's been a year of running now. I'm not much for stats, but just for context: I went 420km in exactly one year, with the longest single run at 10k & the fastest enduring pace around 7m50s-8m per km. I now have a running voabulary & understand what it takes.

The other thing that happened with this is a focus on what I'm eating: I started cooking my breakfast every day, tracked my calorie intake every meal for a 2 months to develop concious eating habits. This lead to a weight loss that was much needed – went from ~78kg to a stable ~70-71kg range over this period.

About halfway this year period, I realized I'd either need to go slower, go shorter distances, or build up some strength in order to keep running. I was hitting a wall, and while I don't want to run marathons, it would be nice if it was a choice, and not a limitation.

So, I decided to augument the running with some strength training, which I write about here
